Thank you for visiting the Humane Society Legislative Fund of Missouri (“HSLFMO”) website (the “Site”). HSLFMO(also referred to as “we”, “us” or “our”) respects your privacy and has developed this privacy policy to inform you of our policies and practices regarding information we collect from you and the choices you have associated with that data.

This Privacy Policy governs the Site and certain electronic communications sent out by HSLFMO(collectively, the "Services").  The Services are offered by HSLFMO for those interested in the protection of animals.

By using the Services, you agree that you have read and agree to our Term of Service and to the collection and use of information in accordance with this privacy policy.

You may request that we delete any personal information we hold about you by contacting us at the address provided at the end of this privacy policy.  You may opt out of receiving any, or all, electronic communications from us by following the unsubscribe link or the instructions provided in any email we send.

1. How does this privacy policy apply?

This privacy policy describes what we do with personal information that we collect, such as information you submit online and information about how you use and interact with our Services.

2. Information we collect

a. Personal information you voluntarily provide

HSLFMO collects and maintains certain personal information about you when you send us an email or complete any of our online forms, such as when you request information from us, make a donation, sign up to be a volunteer, or sign up to receive newsletters or emails from us. Such information may include your name, mailing address, email address, mobile number and any other information collected in the forms.

You may be asked to provide credit card information if you wish to donate to the HSLFMO. If you make a donation, we may obtain limited information about your payment card from our payment processor, such as the last four digits, the country of issuance and the expiration date.

b. Information obtained from your use of the Services

We may also collect information on how the Services are accessed and used ("Usage Data”) This Usage Data may include information such as your computer's Internet Protocol address (e.g. IP address), browser type, browser version, the pages of our Services that you visit, the time and date of your visit, the time spent on those pages, unique device identifiers and other diagnostic data.

Our website platform provider, Squarespace, Inc., will also collect information about your interactions with our site. Squarespace, Inc., uses this information in an anonymous, aggregated or pseudonymized form which does not focus on you individually. Squarespace use this data to evaluate, provide, protect or improve their services.

Some of this information is collected automatically using cookies and similar technologies when you use our Services.

3. Tracking and Cookies Data

We use cookies and similar tracking technologies to track the activity on our Services. Cookies are small pieces of text sent to your browser and placed on your hard drive when you visit a site.  Cookies help us evaluate how the Services are being accessed and used, enable us to track performance of the Services and to customize and improve the Services. For example, we use cookies to determine if you viewed a page or opened an email.

You can instruct your browser to refuse all cookies or to indicate when a cookie is being sent. However, if you do not accept cookies, you may not be able to use some portions of our Service.

We also use web beacons. Web beacons track behavior such as who has opened an email and when, the IP address, the browser or email type, which links were clicked and other similar information. This allows us to measure the performance of email campaigns, see what actions subscribers took, create reports about email performance, improve the quality of our emails and segment messages for specific audiences.

We use the personal information collected for various purposes:

  • To communicate with you if you have elected to volunteer, receive emails, newsletters or other communications from us.

  • To provide and maintain our Service.

  • To process donations or respond to inquiries.

  • To gather analysis or valuable information so that we can improve our Service.

  • To monitor the usage of our Service.

  • To detect, prevent and address technical issues and to ensure the security of our Services.

  • To enforce our Terms of Service and other legal terms and policies and comply with applicable legal requirements.

5. How we share your personal information

We share personal information in the following ways:

  • Affiliates. We share personal information with our affiliates when it is reasonably necessary or desirable, such as to help us provide information or services you have requested or to analyze and improve the services we or they provide.

  • Service providers. We share personal information with our service providers that perform services on our behalf. For example, we may use third parties to help us provide user support, send newsletters and other communications on our behalf or assist with data storage. These third parties have access to your personal information only to perform these tasks on our behalf and are obligated not to disclose or use it for any other purpose.

  • Process donations. We transmit your personal information via an encrypted connection to our payment processor.  

  • Following the law or protecting rights and interests. We disclose your personal information if we determine that such disclosure is reasonably necessary to comply with the law, protect our or others’ rights, property or interests (such as enforcing our Terms of Service) or prevent fraud or abuse of HSLFMO.

6. Links to Third Party Sites.

Our Services may contain links to other sites that are not operated by us. If you click a third party link, you will be directed to that third party's site. We strongly advise you to review the privacy policy of every site you visit.  We have no control over and assume no responsibility for the content, privacy policies or practices of any third party sites or services.

7. How we protect your personal information

The security of your personal information is important to us, but no method of transmission over the Internet or method of electronic storage is one hundred percent secure. While we use commercially acceptable means to protect your personal information, we cannot guarantee its absolute security.

8. How we retain your personal information

We retain personal information regarding you or your use of the Services for as long as needed to provide you Services. We also retain personal information for as long as necessary to achieve the purposes described in this privacy policy, for example, to comply with our legal obligations, to protect us in the event of disputes and to enforce our agreements and to protect our and others’ interests.  

Please note that in the course of providing the Services, we collect and maintain aggregated, anonymized or de-personalized information which we may retain indefinitely.

9. Your rights and choices

You may request that we delete any personal information we hold about you (unless we need to retain it for the purposes set out in this Privacy Policy) by contacting us at address provided below. You may also contact us to request a copy of any personal information already collected.

Please note that, for technical reasons, there is likely to be a delay in deleting your personal Information from our systems when you ask us to delete it.

10. Children's Privacy

Our Services do not address anyone under the age of 18 ("Children"). We do not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from anyone under the age of 18. If you are a parent or guardian and you are aware that your Child has provided us with personal information, please contact us. If we become aware that we have collected personal information from Children without verification of parental consent, we take steps to remove that information from our servers.

11. Updates to this Privacy Policy

We may update our privacy policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new privacy policy on this page. We will let you know via email and/or a prominent notice on our Site, prior to the change becoming effective and update the "effective date" at the top of this privacy policy.

You are advised to review this privacy policy periodically for any changes. Changes to this privacy policy are effective when they are posted on this page.
